Iran says it has has just completed the shipment of 42 tons of food to Afghanistan.
The official Iranian news agency said rice, flour, cooking oil, and other foostuffs were shipped today (Wednesday) from the southeastern border city of Zahedan in a four-truck convoy. Earlier this month, Iranian relief officials sent two tons of medical supplies to the Tajik border to assist Afghan refugees encamped there.
More than 150-thousand people have fled Afghanistan's northern provinces in the past year as fighting continues between the country's Taleban rulers and the northern opposition alliance. Most of the refugees are now in the Tajik province of Badakhshan, where outbreaks of cholera have been reported.
Iran is now home to two million Afghan refugees, one of the world's largest population of displaced persons in the world.
