Anti-Taleban Alliance Claims Attack on Kabul Airport - 2001-09-12

Afghanistan's anti-Taleban alliance has claimed responsibility for a pre-dawn rocket attack on Kabul airport.

A senior opposition commander (Bismillah Khan) says two helicopter gunships took part in the operation. He said opposition forces also fired missiles at the airport.

There were no reports of damage or casualties.

The attack on Kabul airport followed a day of intensified Taleban assault on opposition forces in the north.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reporting from Kabul says all foreigners working for the United Nations and other international aid agencies are preparing to leave Afghanistan in the wake of terrorist attacks in the United States.

Accused terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden is believed to be in hiding in Afghanistan and U-S officials have said there is growing evidence that links him to the terror attacks in New York and Washington
