British Police Is Given More Time to Question on Masood Assassination - 2001-10-25

British police have been given more time to question an Egyptian man in connection with the assassination of anti-Taleban leader, Ahmad Shah Masood.

The man, who has been identified by news reports as Yasser al-Siri, allegedly provided references to two men who traveled from London to Afghanistan to assassinate Mr. Massood. Mr. Massod was the top commander of Afghanistan's Northern Alliance.

Without the extension, which will run until Saturday, police would have been forced to release Mr. al-Siri today (Thursday).

Mr. Masood died from wounds he suffered in a suicide bomb attack in September carried out by two men posing as journalists.
