Bush Urges Americans to Brace for Long, Hard Fight Against Terrorism - 2001-11-24

President Bush is telling Americans celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday to brace themselves for difficult times ahead, saying the fight against terrorism will l not be quickly or easily finished.

In his weekly Saturday radio address, the president said terrorists hide and plot in many nations. He said the United States is confident its cause is just and will continue to fight for as long as it takes.

In the Democratic response, Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald called for a post-Taleban government in Afghanistan that respects the rights of women and includes female participation.

On Friday, Mr. Bush consulted with top aides on the U-S-led military campaign in Afghanistan and the hunt for fugitive Osama bin Laden, whose al-Qaida network is accused of masterminding the September terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

In his radio address, President Bush also sought to remind Americans that despite the recent tragedies, they have much to be thankful for -- from the bravery of U-S troops to the bonds of family and faith.

Mr. Bush is spending the Thanksgiving weekend with his family at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.
